Doctor of Nursing Practice

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at Russell Sage College prepares graduates to lead interprofessional teams using scientific research, information systems and technology to provide safe, quality care at the individual and population-based level. An emphasis will be placed on addressing social determinants of health and achieving health equity.
 

The DNP Program at Russell Sage College will prepare practice-focused leaders emphasizing:
● Generation of new knowledge through innovative practice change.
● Translation of scientific evidence into practice and policy.
● Address social determinants of health with a goal of increasing diversity, equity,
and inclusion across healthcare settings.
● Formulation of policy, advocacy and social justice initiatives leading to improved
health outcomes.
● Implementation of innovative quality improvement processes within diverse
settings or systems.
● Collaboration in the development of innovative interprofessional research teams.
● Generation of strong organizational and systems leadership skills.
● Creation and evaluation of healthy work environments.
● Utilization of new sustainable care delivery models.

Students may be admitted with advanced academic standing and will begin the program with the Doctoral Core.  Students who are Certified Nurse Practitioners with Masters degree may be admitted with advanced standing.

Russell Sage College is accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Higher Education. The Department of Nursing is a member agency of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the National League for Nursing, and the Council of Deans of Nursing in Senior Colleges and Universities in New York State. The baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in nursing at Russell Sage College are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 887-6791. All nursing programs are registered with the New York State Education Department.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Russell Sage College is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org). Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

Core for Adult Gero Primary Care

Students will spend 1150 clinical hours (650 clinical hours for Master's degree requirements and 500 clinical hours for DNP requirements) providing care to patients across healthcare settings. These field experiences will focus on management of patients with acute and chronic illness. The main emphasis of primary care NP educational preparation is on comprehensive, chronic, continuous care characterized by a long-term relationship between the patient and AGPCNP.

Core for Adult Gero Acute Care

Students will spend 1150 clinical hours (650 clinical hours for Master's degree requirements and 500 clinical hours for DNP requirements) providing care to patients across healthcare settings as it is the patient, not the setting that differentiates their practice. The AGACNP practice focuses on patients who are characterized as “physiologically unstable, technologically dependent, and/or are highly vulnerable to complications."

Core for Family Nurse Practitioner

Students will spend 1200 clinical hours (700 clinical hours for Master's degree requirements and 500 clinical hours for DNP requirements) providing care to patients across healthcare settings, with an emphasis on primary care environments. These experiences will ensure the student works with the patients across the lifespan and experiences the full spectrum of health care services to include health promotion, disease prevention, health protection, anticipatory guidance, counseling, disease management, palliative, and end-of-life care.

Core for Psychiatric Mental Health

Students will spend 1250 clinical hours (750 clinical hours for Master's degree requirements and 500 clinical hours for DNP requirements) providing care to patients across the lifespan. These students will have experiences which include these populations in a variety of settings. Didactic curriculum content will include at least two psychotherapeutic treatment modalities and when available, clinical experiences will include these modalities.
