PTY 721: Health Promotion and Wellness

This course focuses on the role of the physical therapist and other health professionals in the design of health promotion and community wellness programs for healthy, at risk and special populations across the lifespan. Theories of community health assessment, prevention, and health promotion are addressed.  Students will apply principles of health promotion and community wellness to case studies and will develop a culminating original health promotion program on a selected topic.  Emphasis will be placed on recognizing health disparities, involving other members of the health care team, providing client-centered education, and engaging with national and global public health initiatives.
