CJC 525: Restorative Justice Community

Credits 3

This course explores restorative justice as an alternative response to crime. It recognizes the needs of crime victims while holding the offender accountable for the harm their actions caused. Restorative justice addresses the harm caused by crime, the people and communities who are affected, and the restorative practices available to address the harm. It can be used with both juveniles and adults and used independently or in conjunction with the criminal justice system. Other restorative practices can be used in families, in schools, and in communities. This is a writing intensive course. This course is open only to students matriculated in either the Criminal Justice/Community Corrections program or the Forensic Mental Health program.
